KITCHEN LEDAfter years of watching energy cost rise we’ve insulated the house, installed low energy devices and now it’s time to look at the lighting.

The 50w Halogen lamps are replaced with 5w LED lamps

Replacing 1 Halogen lamp with 1 LED lamp saves £13 a year, see below for details.

It is very important to make sure that the replacements are selected and installed correctly otherwise the energy and maintenance savings may not be as expected, see note 3.

Average daily use of 5 hours per day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Energy Reduction and Cost Saving

Replacing a 50w Halogen lamp with 5w LED lamp would cover the extra cost of the LED by the savings on electricity within 1 year, see below.

In addition, you’d need to replace 12-13 Halogen lamps during the life of one LED lamp.

Cost of replacing lamp per year

Electricity saving per lamp each year £12.32 (13.69 – 1.37) which is more than the £10 cost of an LED lamp, see note 1.

Lamp replacement saving per lamp per year £0.64 (1.37 – 0.73).

After 1st year total saving per lamp per year £12.96 (12.32 + 0.64).

3. A retrofit LED downlight in a kitchen ceiling fixture replacing several halogen downlights on a 1-for-1 basis may be exposed to up to 90℃ more than the nominal 40℃ at which the lifespan testing is done. It is important that the correct products are chosen to suit each environment to ensure the maximum lifespan is achieved.
An alternative to this is installing complete new fixtures with a combined LED lamp which allows All Star to offer a 3 – 5 year manufacturers warranty on the product.
